Uninsured or Underinsured Accidents

Accident Without Insurance

The question often arises “What happens if I am involved in an accident that is no fault of mine, but the individual who strikes me has no insurance”? The fact of the matter is that you need to prepare for such an incident, because on many occasions people are operating on the roads in the State of Indiana with either no insurance or they are underinsured. Sometimes they have let their insurance lapse and there is no coverage. Or sometimes they do not have adequate coverage. This can happen because they have let their coverage lapse.

“A 100/300 policy that is typically written in the State of Indiana is not of adequate coverage so as to provide to you assurance that you can recover financially from a devastating accident”‘

Prepare Beforehand

The best thing one can do is to prepare and be proactive. By that I mean when you purchase your insurance you should look at your coverage and the coverage that is provided to you if the situation would arise that you are struck by an underinsured driver or a driver who has no insurance. Most policies are written with a proviso or a clause that allows you to provide for yourself insurance on those occasions when struck by someone who does not have adequate insurance. Typically, it is tied to your own coverage, should you be at fault when you strike someone.

Best Insurance to Carry

I would suggest that a 100/300 policy that is typically written in the State of Indiana is not of adequate coverage so as to provide to you assurance that you can recover financially from a devastating accident. When purchasing your insurance, I would suggest that you at least provide for yourself a $500,000 liability coverage which extends to uninsured drivers or underinsured drivers who may be at fault and cause your accident.

The Umbrella Policy, Complete Peace of Mind

You would be surprised at the cost of obtaining a $1 Million Dollar umbrella policy as a second form of insurance. The cost is minimal, given the protection that is provided. This can also be tied to your policy in such a manner to protect you from those individuals who are operating without or with inadequate insurance. This is a very easy proactive step that you can take to protect you and your family should you be the victim of an accident in the State of Indiana. This is probably one of the easiest things that you can do to ensure your well being, should you be the victim of a tragedy of an accident caused by an uninsured or underinsured driver in the State of Indiana.
